What is TikTok NOW?

It seems like every other day social media platforms are releasing new features to rival their competitors. Most recently, TikTok released its new ‘TikTok Now’ feature to compete with the newest social media platform on the block–BeReal. If you can already feel your head spinning trying to keep up with all of these changes, don’t fret. Today, we’re chatting about all things TikTok Now and if you should incorporate it into your social strategy!

What You Need to Know About TikTok Now

Like many other social media platforms before them, TikTok released their new Now feature to rival the newest competitor on the market, BeReal. In case you need a refresher, BeReal is an app that sends you a notification each day at random times to stop and capture what you’re doing at that exact moment. You are able to follow people on the platform but cannot see what they’ve posted until you post. The purpose of BeReal is to encourage a sense of transparency and to show that not everything posted on social media needs to be polished and perfect.

So, what is TikTok now? Well, it’s essentially the same thing! TikTok will send you a notification at various times of the day prompting you to post a picture or video using both the front and back camera of your phone. Currently, you can access TikTok now in the U.S. within the regular TikTok app but outside of the U.S., you’ll need to download the TikTok Now standalone app. Just like BeReal, you aren’t able to see what your friends are posting on Now until you make a post yourself.

The main difference between BeReal and TikTok Now is that Now allows for videos while BeReal still only allows for pictures. It’s also more convenient to use if you already have TikTok downloaded rather than creating an account on a brand-new app.

Should Your Brand Create a TikTok Now Strategy

Now that you know what TikTok Now is, should you be putting it to use for your brand? The answer is: that depends! The concept of BeReal and TikTok Now is relatively new and not many brands are utilizing the feature just yet. If you have the time and bandwidth to play around with TikTok Now, then we say go for it! It can’t hurt to utilize a new feature on the app to boost engagement. That said, if you don’t feel like you have the capacity to be posting regularly, it’s okay to sit this one out for now. We recommend keeping an eye on the feature to see if it grows in popularity and becomes a regular part of your customers’ social habits. But as it stands today, TikTok Now doesn’t need to be a part of your social strategy!
